She Danced a Magical Dance

Hula Dancer – Photo: K. Schlenker 2015

While enjoying a local Farmer’s Market one evening, I was entranced by this woman hula dancing.

Surrounded by the aromas of smoked pulled pork, apple pies, homemade fudge and other delightful comestibles, was this magical dancer, inviting us in to her little space in the world for that specific moment.

I am forever struck by the grace and beauty in her movements when I see this photo, even still.  She seems remarkably unaware of those around her, just internally focused on her body and listening and responding to its gentle rhythms with her hula hoop.

She seems to be freed somehow, even temporarily, from the burdens of this world through the act of dancing.

She is at once Bold and Vulnerable, Gritty and Childlike in her presence.

Perhaps we should all dance more.

Very intriguing…….”Dance as if no one is watching” really describes the “inner freedom” she expresses…..
